As one of the world’s most iconic and beloved figureheads, Queen Elizabeth II was an anchor in the storm of a troubled political world, a model of resilience and magnanimity, an embodiment of devotion to a life of service, and a quiet peacemaker for over seven decades. She traveled more extensively than any other monarch in history to foster friendship and reconciliation among nations. In our three-part show, let us reminisce Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s extraordinary life of remarkable achievements, as she went from being an innocent young girl to becoming a Queen, and one of the world’s most revered and influential leaders.

Elizabeth was born in London, United Kingdom, at the home of her maternal grandparents, the 14th Earl and Countess of Strathmore, on April 21, 1926, during the reign of her paternal grandfather, His Majesty King George V. After the passing of His Majesty King George V, Elizabeth’s uncle succeeded him as King Edward VIII. Merely 11 months into his reign, in December 1936, Edward abdicated the throne in order to marry the love of his life. Consequently, Prince Albert, Elizabeth’s father, ascended the throne and became King George VI, making Elizabeth heir presumptive.

In 1945, in solidarity with her people and nation, like many other young Britons, Elizabeth enlisted and joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), despite the King’s reluctance. She was trained as a mechanic and driver. This made her the first female British royal to enlist in full-time military service.

On November 20, 1947, Elizabeth and Philip were married at Westminster Abbey in London, receiving the royal titles - Duchess and Duke of Edinburgh. BBC radio broadcasted the joyous ceremony to a worldwide audience. One year later on November 14, the young couple welcomed their first child, Charles, who is now His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms, followed by their second child, Princess Anne in 1950. After Elizabeth’s succession to the crown, the couple were blessed with two more children - Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.
